Jenn Taft, an interior designer at Engler Studio, had transformed many homes during her career, but this was the first time she focused on completely rejuvenating her own kitchen. Her goal was to breathe new life into her ‘59 rambler so spaces naturally flowed, function was maximized, and the style was fun and current. She achieved this by reconfiguring the layout to open sight lines and incorporating a large new prep counter and breakfast bar. Sustainable cork floors and rich walnut cabinetry honors mid-century roots while bringing the kitchen into the 21st century. New cabinetry includes slow-close drawers, a hidden technology charging drawer, and a hexagonal tile backsplash. Bonus that this kitchen now has enough room for multiple cooks, including a 5-year-old sous chef/helper extraordinaire, and enough elbow room to gather in the heart of the home.
