With her only child leaving for college, this busy executive decided it was time to remodel her kitchen to suit her love of cooking, baking, and hosting holiday celebrations. Her wish list included an island, plenty of storage, white cabinetry, and a special place for her collection of teacups. With the help of designer Liz Schupanitz, the mudroom doorway was relocated to the sink wall, creating space for a dedicated cooking zone with convection oven, steam oven, and gas range top. The wall became the anchor for the new island, painted a custom blue with black glaze and topped with Carrara marble, and a wood-burning fireplace was transformed with a convenient gas insert and elegant marble covering the outdated brick. The paneled accent wall separates the kitchen dining space from the work area, with a hutch adding more storage space and a designated spot for the teacup collection.
