Every one of our homes is created with artistry and vision … built with high-quality materials and innovative and creative designs.  It doesn’t matter what the price tag is, all TJB homes have that million-dollar look and feel.

How long have you been in business? TJB Homes has been in the community since 1980; I’ve been licensed in real estate since 1974.

How did you get your start in this business? I got my start at 16 working at Beisswenger’s hardware store in New Brighton—I made money doing side jobs for customers. After I got out of the service, I became a licensed real estate agent. In 1978, we built our first house, and in 1980, I started TJB Homes. We’re a family-owned company that’s small enough to give our clients personalized attention, but big enough to provide competitive pricing from suppliers. Our clients feel comfortable working with us—like family. We have built many homes for both parents and their children.

Why should someone build with you?

  • I have extensive knowledge in cold-climate building, a method I first discovered in Canada nearly 30 years ago. The first houses we built had double 2x4 walls. As we analyzed our process, we started to understand that the air tightness was more important than the insulation. From there, we developed our TJB Super-Energy home, greatly reducing heating bills in the process.
  • We believe in building simply green to lesson the carbon footprint without overspending clients’ budgets.
  • And we’re focused on the “wow” factor—we don’t deliver a Plain Jane house—we want it to be exciting, fun, and creative, no matter the price. We don’t want it to feel like “just another house,” but a home you’ll love for a lifetime. That’s our philosophy.

What communities do you primarily build in? We’re currently building in Blaine, Woodbury, Lake Elmo, Roseville, teardowns/rebuilds in Edina, and lake cabins in various cities. People recognize our name. We’ve done two Extreme Makeover:Home Edition shows. We’ve built a great reputation in the community for quality, creativity, and energy-efficient features.
