3 Easy Ways to Change Your Decor for Spring

We all have a natural tendency to want to revitalize our spaces as the weather gets warmer. Sunny spring days give us the boost of energy it takes to re-organize and re-imagine the spaces we live in every day. Here are a few tips for moving from winter cozy to spring fresh.

Brighten up your room

Warmer weather begs for hints of summer. Punch up the grays and jewel tones that we’re drawn to in the winter months with bright and pastel colors. Some of my favorite summer brights pair well with navy as a nice, semi-neutral base – think lighter blues or bright lime greens. Experiment with blush tones in a neutral room to keep things light.

  • If you have more than two colors in your space (excluding neutral tones), then forego one of your wintry colors for a lighter or brighter tone.
  • Don’t be afraid to keep one of those traditionally wintry colors, and punch it up with a color. Think about adding a fuchsia to wine-colored hues or pairing pale salmon with forest green.
  • Only a hint of your accent color is needed. Follow the easy rule of three: Perhaps it’s two throw pillows and a vase, or an accent pillow, throw, and piece of artwork.

Gingham and moody florals are back in full force. Both pair especially well with clean, contemporary palettes.

Replace heavy fabrics

Some of the fabrics we love in the colder months tend to feel heavy and drab now. Lighten things up by moving away from velvet, satin and brocade and replace them with linens and cottons.

  • Swap window treatments to a lighter fabric or remove them altogether. Sheer curtains are textural and add movement with airflow from open windows.
  • Switch pillows to a new, trendy color or to add that accent.
  • To add color and texture that can be lost with linens and cottons, add pillows with embroidery.

Bring nature inside

Enjoy fresh blooms from your garden both inside and outside of your home. It can be as simple as trimming a few blossoming branches in a clean glass vase.

  • Place blooms throughout your home and don’t be afraid to bring them into private spaces, such as bedrooms and bathrooms. Don’t forget about the spaces above desks or dressers – a hanging vase would be perfect here.
  • Use wall-mounted vases as an alternative. Keep these easy to maintain with air plants, which don’t need soil, a fool-proof way to add color and greenery. You can grab one at your local home décor store.

It’s fun to watch your home transform to fit your personality and the seasons outside. Mix and match these ideas to your preferences and personal style.
