Polished, Elegant Home also Provides a Kid-Friendly Environment

#2 Landmark Build Co., 5209 Lochloy Drive, Edina, MN 55436

These clients, second-time Landmark Build Co. customers, had a different lifestyle when they built their first home in Linden Hills—the focus was almost entirely on entertaining. The second time around, with a preschooler and one-year-old in tow, they wanted a family-friendly home and chose to put down roots in the Edina Highland neighborhood.

The 6,600-square-foot European-style home borrows details from English and French architectural traditions, with a multi-pitched roof, dormers, repeating arches, and a combination of decorative stone and stucco. From the 18-foot tall entryway and curved wrought-iron staircase leading to a Juliet balcony to the design murals and decorative finishes by local artist Carter Averbeck of Omforme Design, the home leaves a lasting impression, says its designer David Zweber of David Charlez Designs. Interior designers Lori Handberg and Mari Jo Mundahl of Studio M Interiors describe the design as part-traditional, part “glitz and glam,” a reflection of the homeowners’ personalities.

Highlights on the main level include the study—with built-in bookcases, tartan plaid accents, and a 12-foot ceiling—opening to its own balcony; a great room featuring a European-style fireplace; and a kitchen with custom cabinetry, a herringbone floor, and a built-in banquette. Four of the five bedrooms, including the master suite, are on the upper level, along with an expansive nanny suite complete with a built-in themed playhouse.

All in all, this home is a perfect blend of kid-friendly elements and stylish sophistication.
