Five Signs That It Might Be Time to Move

Presented by: RE/MAX Results Logo

The decision to move is not an easy one. A house is many things besides shelter—it contains memories, stories, a portion of your life that is gone. You leave something of yourself in a house. I think that’s why it’s always a little melancholy driving by places you’ve lived. You think about your time there and it brings up feelings. But sometimes it is just time to go and scary as that may be, a move can also bring growth, new energy and a boost to your quality of life. So how do you know? If any of the following apply to you, it might be time.

Too crowded.

Marriages, births and babies growing into giant teenagers bring joy and…stuff, that can tax your homes capacity. If a lack of space is causing tension, a move might be worth considering.

Too cavernous.

Similarly, children and sometimes spouses leave the nest. If too many underused rooms are making you blue or the heating bills are making you crazy, a cozier space could be a refreshing change.

Too much time in the car.

Few people find a long commute relaxing. If your job is a slog away it might add years to your life by finding a community that’s closer to your place of employment.

Too much work.

Who’s in charge, here? Is your house serving you or are you serving the house by constantly spending time and money on upkeep and repairs? If you don’t like to putter then maybe you should look for something with less upkeep.

Time to cash out.

Is the market strong in your area and do you have a fair amount of equity? Then it might be the right time to sell, buy something more modest and invest the rest for retirement.
