Needle-Free Christmas Trees

You can find traditional live fir and spruce trees on lots and farms all across the city, and not-fooling-anyone fake fir and spruce trees online and in stores to decorate for Christmas. But what if want something less conventional? Here are a few ideas that still honor the holiday tree custom and give you something to stack gifts under and gather ’round.

The seven-foot tree from Jubiltree is made in Maine from solid maple and strikes a pleasing architectural pose. It can be decorated in a modern or traditional fashion. So stylish, you may want to keep this Christmas tree up all-year. $475

Wouldn’t this be the easiest Christmas tree on the planet? Designed by famed Finnish designer Eero Aarnio, this six-foot molded plastic tree can be used to hang ornaments now, coats later and to appreciate as a beautiful piece of sculpture all year round. Even better, for every tree sold, they donate four fruit trees to fight soil erosion and hunger in Peru. $1,155

When she’s not working on feature films, Production Designer Heidi Adams is creating eco-friendly tabletop Christmas trees out of recycled cardboard. These would look great in an office or study. 18 inches, $25.

It’s probably because of all those years watching A Charlie Brown Christmas but I just can’t resist a twig tree. Quiet and dignified, the bare branches on these seem to embody the calm and more contemplative side of the holiday. Target, $60

Playful wooden Timbatrees from the UK are handmade by carpenters of sustainably-sourced redwood and have slots for ornaments and votive lights so they can be decorated and lit up in a traditional fashion. Reminds me of a Jenga game, but sturdier. Starts at around $180.

A very lovely two-story home on Bearpath’s 14th green. Move-in perfect inside and out! Great spaces for entertaining from the theater room to the newer screened porch. It is a wow and so much to see and enjoy.
