Home #1: Aspect Design Build

Every now and then you see a home so unique, so unexpected, that it leaves a lasting impression for all the right reasons. That’s this Deephavenhome—on the market for $1,595,000—situated on a private nature preserve just minutes from Lake Minnetonka and downtown Excelsior.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home, designed in collaboration with design firm Vintage Elements, embraces aspects of the Victorian era in a modern context. Shaun Winkler and Tom Preissing of Aspect Design Build describe the home as “rugged vintage,” with one-of-a-kind features throughout. In the two-story entry, a custom-made chandelier—created with reclaimed milk glass pendants—is visibly dazzling both inside and out, parquet flooring is reminiscent of an opulent turn-of-the-century estate, a refinished antique mantle in the great room looks like it’s always been there. Rugged reclaimed oak barn beams  adorn the ceiling in the kitchen, dining room, and master suite, while reclaimed timbers add character to the front porch. In the kitchen, a custom five-foot-wide countertop “cafe” window opens out to the screened porch counter, allowing for blended entertaining. The kitchen was planned with “zones” in mind for the utmost in convenience, including cooking and baking centers and two kitchen islands for cooking prep, storage, and gathering/eating.

On the lower level, the piéce de résistance is the tavern, replete with an antique bar and conditioned wine and bourbon cellar in the tasting room, while upstairs you’ll find bedrooms, a flex space with built-in benches, and the master suite, where Victorian elegance is evident in the carved custom cabinetry and marble countertops.

This stunning home brings a rugged modern style to the Victorian age for the perfect balance of past and present.
