The Foundry Home Goods Announces New Location
Big news for fans of minimalist kitchen wares and home goods: North Loop favorite, the Foundry Home Goods, is adding a second, larger location in south Minneapolis next month.
“We've been looking to expand into a larger space for a while now,” explains an email sent out to the store’s customers, “somewhere with more room for the girls to romp, more cozy corners for more lovely things, more golden afternoon light, more space for parties”—and more parking.
The Foundry, which specializes in minimalist, artisan-made home décor, tableware, and bath and body care, had temporarily moved down a couple storefronts to the former Roe Wolfe/Arrow space while its cozy, original space on the corner of North 1st Street and North 2nd Avenue undergoes construction. Its temporary space features nearly three times as much square footage—about the same as its upcoming south Minneapolis location. Shop manager Lillian Egner says they’re looking at another year at minimum before it will be able to move back into its renovated, expanded original space.
The new store will be located on a corner of south Minneapolis next to the stylish women’s and home boutique, Mille. Egner says the historic storefront features old brickwork, pressed tin ceilings, airy transoms, and southern exposure. The new store will open its doors on February 14 with an all-day Valentine’s party.
As far as its eventual return to the North Loop, Egner says, “We're looking at a few possible options for the new North Loop space. And depending on which option makes the most sense, it may be very soon or it may be a slightly longer gap before we're back.” She notes that multiple, overlapping, simultaneous construction projects on that block of the North Loop are about to kick off, making it tough to plan. “We want to be sure that we're always in a storefront that is just right, architecturally. It just wouldn't be The Foundry without sunny windows and a friendly sidewalk for the dogs.”
And that’s not all: The Foundry also is working with local builder to create a mobile Foundry pop-up shop, so look for that to pop up all around the Twin Cities (and maybe even travel the country) later this year.
The Foundry’s temporary location in the North Loop will close following Super Bowl Sunday. Until then, it will be open and stocked with elegant vessels to elevate your chips and dip game. @ 125 N. 1st St. and online at thefoundryhomegoods.com. Hours: Monday–Saturday from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
