What was your design dilemma?
This project posed a design problem like many small city houses do – a small, outdated kitchen. Our solution was to rework the functionality of the back half of the house. We removed a wall between the dining room and a bedroom in order to create a larger kitchen with eat-in dining area. That then allowed us to convert the previous kitchen into a highly functional mud room with laundry and additional storage.
Tell us about your source(s) of inspiration for this project.
The client and their goals are always the inspiration. This client wanted a more open floorplan than the original home offered, they wanted modern amenities but in a classic style that honored the age of the house.
What were your top three go-to tools to get the job done?
Every project is a puzzle to be solved, in this case the space planning was the critical first step to ensuring we maximize function and storage, especially considering the client was downsizing considerably.
What part of this project are you most proud of?
That the client is thrilled with their home, they said it functions so well for them and their extended family.
