A Masculine-Chic Kitchen Remodel in Edina

This post is a part of a series that gives an inside look behind the creative process of homes featured on the upcoming ASID MN Kitchen Tour  on April 16-17, 2016. You’ll get to see each designer’s challenges and joys behind creating the perfect kitchen for their client.

Today, we’re featuring the work of Fiddlehead Design Group.

Design dilemma:

The home had not been updated from its original 1975 layout and decor. The floor plan was choppy, blocked natural light, and did not accommodate this couple’s love of entertaining. The materials were outdated and not the masculine-chic look they were going for.

Inspiration:

The homeowners came to the table with lots of ideas and they were the primary source of inspiration. They admired Nate Berkus and Thomas O’Brien’s design aesthetic and wanted a tailored and modern vibe with elements of traditional design.

Biggest challenge:

The homeowner’s have great taste and since we were remodeling the entire first floor of their home, we had to help them achieve the “look for less.” It is a mix of high and low with emphasis on the areas that created the most impact. For example, we spent more on the lighting and countertops but went with a semi-custom line of cabinetry which still delivered the look they were going for.

Most proud of:

The homeowners love their new spaces. It suits their lifestyle and design aesthetic and strikes the perfect balance of casually modern with refined traditional influences. They now love to host multiple events including an annual Apres-Skate party on the pond behind their home.
