Yardbird Outdoor Furniture Is Back

Yardbird’s Luna Collection

Yardbird, the high-end, budget-friendly outdoor furniture brand, is back. Launched with a pop-up shop in St. Louis Park last spring, Yardbird proved its direct-to-the-consumer concept by selling more than $1 million-worth of inventory in less than four weeks. Its new showroom in Hopkins across Highway 7 from Knollwood opened this week to showcase its latest furniture collections.

The Yardbird concept is the brainchild of Minneapolis father-and-son team, Bob and Jay Dillon. The two decided to cut out the middleman, importing, warehousing, and shipping their furniture themselves— a model that means cost savings for the consumer. Bob Dillon is an entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in the home and garden industry. Jay moved to Hong Kong for several years to  get a first-hand understanding of manufacturing in Asia in preparation for Yardbird’s launch.

Observing the epidemic of plastic litter on beaches and waterways in Asia, Jay also wanted to support conservation efforts. As a result, Yardbird collected and incorporated over 30,000 pounds of intercepted ocean plastic in its 2018 collection, with 50 percent of every handmade resin wicker set made of this recycled material. It plans to increase recycled content to 70 percent in 2019.

Yardbird’s eco-friendly Langdon Collection

Yardbird launches with 10 core collections made of this eco-friendly resin wicker and aluminum. Complete sets—including a couch, loveseat or sectional, two chairs, and a table—range from $1,280 to $3,499. Each collection comes with Sunbrella® cushions, available in two neutral colors. The loveseat, sofa, and sectional sets are available in a faux weathered teak, modular resin wicker, and aluminum frames. The dining collections feature Sunbrella® sling chairs and cast aluminum frame designs. Yardbird’s collection also includes fire tables, ottomans, covers, and throw pillows in Sunbrella® fabrics.
